I am excited to share my inclusion in the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s Society Members Exhibition this year!
The Dunedin Public Art Gallery is an amazing space with a wonderful collection. One of my favourite places to spend time. I am very excited to have this opportunity.
It has been a couple of years settling in to my new home country of New Zealand and although I have been painting regularly, I haven’t had the time or energy to paint everyday for hours as I have in the past. It hasn’t dampened my enthusiasm for my practice but it has meant I have not shared as much work as previously. This is not altogether a bad thing, as I have managed to focus more on experimenting again, following my intuition on where to put my creative energy. This has resulted in fewer paintings in oil but a large number of ink and pen works that I hope share at some point in the near future.
The ink and pen works on paper are based on my ‘Tiny Talisman’ creations from 2015 and imbued with a sense of slowing down and being present in the moment, being works with small detail, they naturally force me to pay attention to the exclusion of all else while creating them. This practice has become almost a spiritual practice as much as my creative outlet. All creativity comes from within , so not a huge stretch but over time I have noticed how it has changed my daily approach to life as much as what I am producing.
Art making has a way of doing that!
I have created a small number of Oil Paintings in this time, primarily based on the brilliant Aurora’s we have been fortunate enough to witness in our own backyard! I will be showing the first of this series along with one of my A4 framed ink and pen on paper works.
