The Thick series began in 2010 when we moved to the USA. Unfinished work I had bought over in the container from Australia became the ground for techniques of a sculptural quality. I scraped and mark made with various tools and often left under layers visible, to honor the original work. There is an element of structure and history that is build among the layers. Testament to the many finishing points ignored in this series, they are born from the urge to keep going with the exploration of the paint itself.
These paintings became the means of emotionally integrating my old work, and life with my new. I revisit the Thick series, every time I keep going with a work just because I like the way it feels.
