The Throwdown Series all begin with a base layer of paint that is literally thrown at the canvas in the style of Action Painting made famous by Jackson Pollock. I stand above the canvas as it lies on the ground and pour viscous paint made with Oil and Glaze.
Sometimes, I physically control the direction by holding/tilting the canvas when the paint is still wet and other times the images are instantly apparent and I have let them sit to dry before building further. I use the imagery that appears as the starting point for these works, filling in the ground with veils of pigment and glaze.
This technique is very exciting to me. I am always amazed at what is revealed.
